very interesting to read all this.... I am actually offered a job in Madrid for a salary of 26,000euro/year before tax, leaving me with a bit more than 1,600euro to take home.... I have been researching a bit on the two following points:
1)is it an ok salary for Spain, and Madrid in particular for the type of job- very hard to find info- job is to be a geo-scientist for an international engineering consultancy, I have two years similar experience only but a doctorate-
2) whether that would be just enough, enough, or good for living in Madrid- I am single and would either take a shared accomodation or own flat- probably around atocha as that's where the work would be-

any comments welcome, many thanks!

In response to:Relocating from UK to Spain - the purpose of the blog

Hi Phil,
We have had the same thought since before our daughthers were born 4 years ago. Will love to follow your progress regarding schools (your daughter and you!) Are you teaching in a private school or a spanish? I would love to know how you got the job? I am a teacher as well and would need to get work in Spain before going. We have just spend 2 weeks in Andalucia which has convinced us that we really want to do this.
I think the self-move could only be a good idea if it saved a big chunk of money...which I thought it did but then found out it didn't. So, no self-move and the relaxation of using Easyjet for my emmigration. I do love Easyjet - all those who have paid for Speedyboarding come to the front...all those with only one leg or over eighty years old and accompanied by both parents are now free to board...hours later they generously call those of you with an 'A' boarding priority and you stand up thinking wahey...here I go...only to find that you and 148 other people have all been given 'A' boarding priority and you are now fist fighting for a seat with your loved ones. That said, it's half the price of 'Flybe' so who cares.
